Each backend provides different security guarantees:
Keyring Backend¶
- Uses OS-native credential storage
- Encrypted at rest
- User-level isolation
Windows Credential Manager¶
- Windows DPAPI encryption
- Integrated with Windows security
Environment Variables¶
- No encryption
- Suitable for containers
- Should use secrets management
